Marco Giovannoli

An aeronautical engineer by profession and a passionate ultrarunner until a stroke, on the 7th of September 2022, dramatically reshaped his life. Marco Giovannoli has since discovered a new purpose in advocacy and a profound appreciation for emotional intelligence.

He often says that life first placed a medal around his neck, and just four days later, a blood clot.

Though the stroke cost him certain physical abilities, Marco views the emotional insights he gained as far more significant—a realization embodied in his inspiring motto, "Emotional Intelligence over Movements." This phrase underscores his unwavering belief in emotional resilience as the foundation for recovery and personal growth.

Marco’s deep-rooted passion for technology, innovation, and problem-solving now fuels his advocacy work. He is the author of Miracle in the Desert, a memoir that chronicles his remarkable journey of self-discovery and transformation. The book, also available in Italian (Miracolo nel Deserto) and soon in Arabic, offers a powerful perspective on overcoming the challenges of a life-altering event like a stroke.

Before the stroke, Marco aspired to complete a 100KM Ultra Trail. Today, his dreams have evolved to focus on empowering stroke survivors and creating meaningful change. He is working to establish the first Stroke Survivor Organization and Driver Rehabilitation Program in the UAE, paving the way for a more inclusive and supportive environment for survivors in the region.

Marco also champions workplace inclusion for people with disabilities, striving to create opportunities that value their contributions. An avid cook—true to his Italian roots—he has mastered the art of one-handed cooking, turning a challenge into a creative expression of resilience.

In place of his birthday, Marco now celebrates his rebirthday on September 7th—the day he survived a stroke at the end of a 10KM desert run in Abu Dhabi, while training for 2 marathons.

This annual milestone symbolizes the transformative journey he embarked upon and the life he continues to build with determination, courage, and purpose.
